Accessibility at devlin.ai
We're committed to making devlin.ai usable by everyone, including learners and designers with disabilities. This page describes what we've done, what's in progress, and how to report an issue.
Standard
Our public conformance commitment is WCAG 2.0 Level AA, the standard incorporated by the revised Section 508 rule. Internally we implement against WCAG 2.1 Level AA (a strict superset of 2.0), so we also meet the newer baseline many enterprise and government buyers now expect, such as the WCAG 2.1 AA level referenced by the 2024 ADA Title II rule.
What conforms today
- The three learner-facing simulation widgets — text chat, voice, and coach embeds — use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, keyboard-only navigation, visible focus indicators, and screen-reader live regions.
- The appearance tab in the builder validates designer-chosen colors against WCAG AA contrast in real time and surfaces a one-click "Fix all to AA" helper when any pair fails.
- Embeds respect the OS-level
prefers-reduced-motionpreference and mirror the simulation's configured language onto the page so screen readers announce in the right voice. - This accessibility statement and the footer link to it.
Known gaps
- Designer-chosen colors are warned, not blocked: our out-of-the-box embed defaults meet WCAG AA, but designers can override embed colors in the appearance tab. When a chosen pair falls below AA, the builder flags it in real time with a contrast badge, a warning banner, and a one-click "Fix all to AA" helper — but it does not currently block saving or publishing. A published simulation can therefore still use non-conforming colors if a designer overrides the warning.
- Voice mode and synchronized captions (WCAG 1.2.4): our voice widget shows a transcript that updates after each character turn finishes, not synchronized with the audio. Learners requiring synchronized captions should use the simulation's text mode, which runs the same simulation engine and is fully conformant. Both modes share the same scenario and behavior.
- Builder dashboard: outside the appearance tab, the designer-facing dashboard (wizard, sim list, metrics, account, etc.) has not yet been audited. Work is in progress and tracked as Phase 2 of our accessibility program.
Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT)
Our Accessibility Conformance Report, prepared using the VPAT 2.5 WCAG edition, covers the learner-facing surfaces (text, coach, and voice embeds, plus the journey player in standalone and LMS-wrapped form) against WCAG 2.1 Level A and AA. It states conformance only where our automated checks and reviews verify it, and names the same known gaps listed above.
