Get started

Signing in and your first steps

Sign in with an email code, Google, Microsoft or your company login, complete the welcome form, and keep a simulation you built in the homepage demo.

On this page

devlin.ai has one sign-in page for new and returning designers. You can sign in with a code sent to your email, with Google, with Microsoft, or with your company login if your organization uses SAML single sign-on (SSO). There is no separate sign-up page: entering an email address that has no account yet creates the account. This page covers each sign-in method, what happens the first time you sign in, how to keep a simulation you built in the homepage demo, and how to sign out.

Before you start

  • For the email code you need access to the inbox of the address you sign in with.
  • A new account gets its own personal workspace on the Free plan with 1,500 credits. See Workspaces and Plans and what each includes.
  • There is no separate SSO button. If your company's email domain is set up for SSO and the organization's plan includes SSO, entering your work email takes you to your company login. See SAML SSO and multi-factor authentication.
  • If you were invited to an organization, start from the link in the invitation. After you sign in, you are returned to the invitation. See Members and roles.

Steps

These steps sign you in with an email code.

  1. Open the devlin.ai sign-in page.
  2. Type your email address and select Continue. If the address is not valid, the page shows "Enter a valid email address." and nothing is sent.
  3. The page shows Check your email and the address the code was sent to. Find the 8-digit code in that inbox.
  4. Type the code. The field accepts digits only, and Sign in becomes available once all 8 digits are entered.
  5. Select Sign in.

If the code does not arrive, select Resend code. After each send, the link shows a countdown and can be used again after 60 seconds. To use another address, select Try a different email. The countdown does not carry over to the new address.

If the code is wrong or too old, the page shows "That code is invalid or has expired. Request a new code and try again."

Result

You are signed in and the app opens. If you opened a link to a page in the app while signed out, you are returned to that page after signing in, whichever sign-in method you used.

The first time you land on the app's start page with your personal workspace active, the Welcome to devlin.ai form opens over Studio. It does not open if you signed in from a link to another page or from an invitation to an organization. It opens the next time you open the start page in your personal workspace. See "Your first sign-in" below.

If you open the sign-in page or the devlin.ai homepage while you are already signed in, you are taken into the app instead.

Other ways to sign in

Google or Microsoft

Select Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft on the sign-in page and finish signing in with that provider. You are then returned to devlin.ai, signed in.

Your company login (SAML SSO)

Type your work email and select Continue. If the domain of that address belongs to an SSO connection on a workspace whose plan includes SSO, you are sent to your company's identity provider and no email code is sent. When you come back, you are signed in.

The sign-in page shows the Google and Microsoft buttons until it knows your organization requires SSO. If you sign in with Google or Microsoft and your organization requires SSO, you are signed out and returned to the sign-in page with Single sign-on required. The buttons are then hidden and the page tells you to use your company login. If single sign-on cannot be started and your organization requires it, the page shows "We couldn't start single sign-on. Use your company login or contact your administrator." and does not send an email code. If single sign-on cannot be started and your organization does not require it, the page sends an email code instead.

How SSO is set up, how people join the organization through it, and what requiring it means are covered in SAML SSO and multi-factor authentication.

Your first sign-in

A new account starts with a personal workspace that you own. It is on the Free plan and starts with 1,500 credits, which never expire. See Credits, usage and low-credit alerts.

When you open the app's start page with your personal workspace active and no name saved on your profile, you are taken to Studio and the Welcome to devlin.ai form opens over it.

  1. Enter your Name. It is required. If your sign-in provider shared your name, it is already filled in.
  2. Optionally choose your Role, enter your Company, and answer How many people create training at your org?
  3. Select Start Building.

The form cannot be closed or skipped. If saving fails, Continue without saving appears so you can go on, and the form comes back the next time you open the app's start page until a name is saved.

After the form, the Create new dialog opens, ready for you to describe your first simulation. Select Generate simulation to have devlin.ai draft it, or Start from scratch to open a blank simulation. See Creating a simulation.

You can change these details later in Settings, under General in your personal workspace. See Your account.

Two-factor authentication at sign-in

If your account has an authenticator app set up, signing in with an email code, Google or Microsoft takes you to the Two-factor authentication page before any page of the app opens. Enter the code from your authenticator app and select Verify. You then continue to the page you were opening. Sign in with a different account signs you out and returns you to the sign-in page.

A sign-in through SAML SSO is not asked for this code. See SAML SSO and multi-factor authentication.

Keep a simulation you built in the homepage demo

The devlin.ai homepage has a demo where you describe a scenario, try the generated simulation, and get a score. When the demo conversation ends, a button under the result lets you keep the simulation, even if the conversation could not be scored.

  • If you are signed out, select Sign up free to keep it. The sign-in page opens. Sign in with any method.
  • If you are already signed in, select Save to my workspace.

devlin.ai adds the demo to your active workspace as a draft simulation with evaluation turned on, and opens it in the simulation editor. If your personal workspace is active and no name is saved on your profile yet, the Welcome to devlin.ai form opens over the editor first. After you save it, you stay on the simulation you claimed, and the Create new dialog does not open.

Opening the same link again from the same workspace opens the simulation you already claimed, as long as that simulation is still in that workspace. If you deleted or transferred it, or another workspace is active, the page shows "That demo simulation was already claimed by another account." It does not create a copy.

A demo can be claimed for 7 days after it is created. If it cannot be claimed, a page titled "Couldn't claim that demo" shows one of these messages, with a Build a new simulation in Studio button that opens Studio:

  • "We couldn't find that demo simulation. It may have been removed."
  • A message that the demo simulation has expired.
  • "That demo simulation was already claimed by another account."
  • "Something went wrong saving your simulation. Please try again."

See Building a simulation for what to do in the editor, and Evaluation and scoring for the evaluation the claimed simulation starts with.

Sign out

  1. Open the account menu in the top bar. It shows the first letter of your email address. On a narrow screen, open Menu instead.
  2. Select Sign out.

You are returned to the sign-in page.

Messages on the sign-in page

  • Single sign-on required: Your organization requires SSO. Enter your work email and select Continue to use your company login.
