The xAPI reporting settings decide what the statements from a workspace's LMS packages carry: the criteria, a transcript link or the transcript itself, one statement per learner message, and the learner fields to filter by. They apply to the LMS's own record store and to a workspace LRS alike. What each package sends is described in LMS packages: SCORM and xAPI reporting, and every statement, with the full default set for one attempt, is in the xAPI statement reference.
Before you start
- The workspace's plan must be one of these: Core, Team, Enterprise. On any other plan the section shows Not on this plan and names the plans that include it.
- You must be an owner or admin of the workspace. Members do not see the section.
- The settings are per workspace, personal or organization. For an organization, make it your active workspace first.
Steps
- Open Settings, then Integrations in the settings sidebar. For an organization, it is the organization's Integrations section.
- Find xAPI reporting: "Choose what your LMS and LRS receive when learners finish a simulation, coach or journey from a downloaded package."
- Turn each setting on or off. A change saves as soon as you make it.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Rubric criteria | On | One scored statement for each rubric criterion, with its points, rating and rationale, and every criterion listed on the result statement. Off sends neither. |
| Link to the transcript | On | A link on the result statement that opens the attempt in devlin.ai. |
| Full transcript text | Off | The whole conversation on the result statement. |
| One statement per learner message | Off | A responded statement for each learner message, with the character's line it answered. |
| Identify learners from the LMS | On | New packages name each learner as the LMS does. It is the starting value of the same option in the Download for LMS dialog. |
| Learner fields | None picked | The start-screen answers sent with every statement, so an LRS can filter by them, for example by site or department. |
Learner fields lists the workspace's learner identity fields. When the workspace has none, it says "This workspace has no learner identity fields yet. Add them in Data & privacy to send them here." See Learner identity.
The rationale for each criterion is on by default, as the main evidence for its score. It can quote what the learner wrote or said.
Result
- Statements built after the change follow the new settings. Turning a setting off never changes statements already sent.
- Identify learners from the LMS applies to packages downloaded after the change. A package already uploaded keeps the choice it was downloaded with.
- A workspace on one of these plans can also send every statement to its own LRS, with the same settings: Team, Enterprise. See Sending statements to your own LRS.
The transcript link
The link opens the attempt in devlin.ai, with the same transcript and evaluation panels as Results. A visitor who is not signed in is asked to sign in first. Only a member of the attempt's workspace can then open it, and that workspace must be their active workspace. Anyone else gets a page that is not found, so a link never shows that an attempt exists. Owners and admins can review the evaluation from there. Closing the attempt goes to Results.
Turn the link off when the LRS's readers should not be pointed at devlin.ai.
Changing the settings with devlin or an AI tool
devlin can change these settings with update_xapi_settings, as a proposal that an owner or admin applies. AI tools connected over MCP use the same capability: a call must confirm the live change, dry_run shows what would change, and a workspace that requires approval for live changes holds the change until an owner or admin approves it. See MCP server and AI tool connectors.
Neither can enter the address, key or secret of a workspace LRS. devlin explains where a person does that.
